You Are Greater Than You Think

Following up on my previous post, I'm going to be taking a slight avenue away from outfit posts and be talking more about what's going on in my day-to-day/weighing on my heart/etc.

New years signify change, new beginnings, resolutions, and starting over. Unfortunately, my 2016 carried over into my 2017 -- but only because I let it. It wasn't until yesterday that I realized, because it was so blatantly in my face and cornered me in our conference center at work, that I am surrounded by the most supportive, acknowledging, talented, admiring, strong, and like-minded women that I could ever ask for.

Toward the end of 2016, a few things happened in my work life that I let get me really down, discouraged, and frustrated. It isn't typical "me" behavior to not be a strong individual, but I let it get to me because of how much a truly love my job and how passionate I am about my current employer. I can't even imagine having my own business if this is one that I love more than anything!

I've come a long way in my career, and in social media and digital marketing isn't something that I just woke up one day (yeah, us millennials do that!) and decide,"you know...I like Instagram and Tweeting so I think I should be given a social media title." That doesn't happen. There is SO much more to social media than writing witty content and taking pretty photos. There's a deep understanding of the inner workings, social algorithms, constant platform updates, analytics, how to even find those analytics, how to even understand those analytics once you've found them, what goes on with the media buying side of things, and agencies, just to name a few. I've paid my dues and 2017 will be my 9th year in my field. I'm learning new things on a daily basis because social media and paid media change by the minute and are constantly evolving.

All that being said, if you ever find yourself in a discouraging situation and your frustration has come to a head, don't try to handle everything yourself. Stop and look around. Chances are, there are far more people who see what you're going through, that will be there for you at the drop of a hat. I didn't realize that I was surrounded by so many people who truly and GENUINELY want to see me succeed and are willing to lift me up and support me through my rough times.

No situation you are in will ever be perfect. You will always encounter obstacles that challenge you and test every ounce of your patience. We don't grow when things are easy -- we grow when we face challenges. We either make ourselves miserable, or we make ourselves strong, the amount of work is the same.
